Mr. Casamajor of Madras Civil Service

The Christian witness was begun among the Badagas in the year 1845, with the arrival in Ketty of Mr. Casamajor of Madras Civil Service, whose aim was to evangelize the Badagas. After his death in May 1849, his work was followed by the Basal Evangelical Missionary Society, who worked among the Badagas until the Wesleyan Methodist took over from them when the first World War broke out in 1914.

Basal Evangelical Missionary Society

The zealous and compassionate missionaries of the Basal Evangelical Missionary Society had gathered in twenty four Badaga souls between 1858 (when the first fruit was reaped) and 1864.

Wesleyan Methodist

Wesleyan Methodist took over the evangelism from Basal Evangelical Missionary Society when the first World War broke out in 1914.

On the centenary of the mission among the Badagas, celebrated in 1946, the total number of the converts was just above two thousand. Now, since 1950, the converts are being shepherded in the local churches under the Coimbatore Diocese of the Church of South India.
